I have a work meeting. I am looking forward to it because A)we really really need it to put all of our staff on the same page about standards, policies, drink making, philosophy, etc. B) We are cupping coffee, which I really think we need more practice at so we an tell our customers with the correct language what the varietals taste like. It's hard to define what something tastes like. You need some kind of base terminology to be able to describe what is on your palette. Often times, I'll hear my co-workers say "I like this one, it's dark" but that is the only descriptor they have. Tasting coffee gets you to put words to what you mean by "dark" or "medium" or "rich" or "bright" by further defining what those flavors are made up of, both taste and smell. Ok. I'm done coffee nerding out now. I know Alex got some special coffees for us to cup, and I'm really looking forward to it. Cupping is FUN! They're buying us food afterwards, which usually involves boozeahol. We have pretty generous bosses who really like to have a good time and always go above and beyond when it comes to employee get-togethers. They're also paying us to be there the whole time, so it's not like this is unfair. The only stich I'm having about this is that it's raining outside, so I don't feel guilty being tucked away upstairs in my sewing room and it's the perfect day to put on some music and go to town on the slips I dyed yesterday!
I am in the process of uploading images to a flicker account so I can more easily post pics to this here blog. I am slowly moving here from my LJ, and I think this blog will end up being more image intensive. I started a Flickr account for personal and one with my work email (hells.handbasket@yahoo.com) for pics of my sewing/crafting projects as they go.
So, without further ado:

This is the bag I made for Kate and Rachel, the Spin Cycle girls. I need to figure out how to link to their website from my blog. You all know this tech thing is still difficult for me.

Another view, in this one you can see the lining, a beautiful paisley I've had forever.

I need to find a way to hang things so they look beautiful when they are posted. Solomon (Kate's boyfriend) told me he was covetous of Kate's bag, so he took this as soon as he saw it. I'm going to be building his with him in July sometime, I think. He wants to pick out the fabric for his own. I told him huzzah! That's the whole point of my fledgling business venture!

This is the bag I made for me! Last weekend when we went out, everyone was asking me about my bag business and how it was going, and then asked me if the bag I was carrying was one I had made. I was embarassed to admit it was not, that it was a handmade bag I'd purchased! How silly is that? So this weekend while Kat and I crafted, I made myself one. I think I am the only person who likes these prints together, and the more I make bags the more I fine tune my production method. This bag has more reinforced stitching than my last bag made, and I think I may have found an easier way to insert the lining, as well as do the applique. We'll see.

This closeup shows the skull design a bit better. I think before I try this one again, I'm going to have someone who can actually draw put the pattern on a piece of cardboard for me so I can trace around it. My drawing skills are severely lacking.
Next post, pics of the stuff I dyed yesterday, both before and after adding the additional embellishments!
Gotta shower and head off to the work meeting now.
Hasta, peanuts!
