Yesterday I had a meltdown and I think I bombed my chemistry final and Dexter ate about a pound of chocolate chips and ended up having to go to the ER vet, who was helpful and wonderful and just about all we could hope for. She's new to Bellingham, and I hope she stays and finds many more grateful people who are appreciative of her loving care. I'm writing a letter to the vet today to thank her, again.
So we had to stay up to watch Dex till almost 5, so the half-life of the toxic substance that is in chocolate could work its way out of his system... he was drooling and foaming and shaking and obviously out of it. The vet gave him pain meds and an anti nausea drug and some subcutaneous fluids and an injection of acid reducer so his stomach wouldn't ulcerate, and some meds to counteract the toxin. If we hadn't a) induced vomiting and b) taken him in, Dex would most likely not be here with us this morning. That being said, it's a pretty sad thing when the nurse at the emergency vet recognizes your dog.
So, I've got lots to do and no sleep to do it on. *Sigh*
However, the quarter is coming to a close, lots of things are wrapping up, and I'll be able to sit down and blog about it all, hopefully soon.
