When things go quiet, you know trouble is a comin'

Yesterday was a constant battle with my family and my sewing machine and my own lack of motivation.

Lots of great stuff ended up happening, though.

First off, I was sewing in the morning upstairs, and John came up to ask why I hadn't come to bed. I was irritated the night before, and since he was insisting that he was sick, I decided to sleep on the couch. He wakes up in the morning when I do that and gets a little panicked that he can't find me. We had a bit of a calm talk about the night before, and it ended with him going out on the scooter (Boy Blue, my Yamaha) to get some breakfast fixins'. He made me one of the best omelettes I've ever had. He also bought me bacon. Mmmmm... Bacon..... He cut up fresh strawberries and cleaned the kitchen when he was done.

Fast forward to later in the afternoon. I am upstairs, sewing away, when I hear a loud grinding noise from the kitchen, immediately followed by the sound of breaking glass. There is commotion and yelling, and I hear Hilary and John putting dogs in various rooms, presumably so the Dexter pup and Buckley don't go running through whatever just broke. I hear the vaccum cleaner running, I hear John laugh, and I figure everything is fine. A few minutes later, I hear "What the... what the HELL is this? Hilary, what is this?" and then a wild and loud peal of laughter from both of them. They both start yelling my name. When I come to the top of the stairs, I see this:

"Steph, we need to have a talk. Your crafting is getting out of control. We found this in your garbage disposal. When John turned it on, it jammed and vibrated the sink, breaking wineglasses. Your craft habit is becoming dangerous to others..."

John couldn't keep a straight face. I couldn't either. I guess one of the slips from the last batch slid down into the disposal and I didn't catch it because it was so late at night when I got done with those. Oops. How many households in the world do you think end up with that problem?

I took a break to have breakfast and lay on the deck. I fell asleep in the sun, and it was glorious. I woke up with a bit of a burn, but John assured me it would fade to a tan by today, which it did.

I fought with my machine all day yesterday. Once, the needle hit a hidden pin and just jumped out of the casing. Then, twice more, the needle broke, throwing pieces of sharp metal at my face. The first time, I thought a shard had hit my eyeball. The second time I avoided injury, it just scared the bejeezus out of me. I sewed right sides to wrong sides, almost sliced my finger with a rotary cutter, and gave myself several blood draw sticks with pins. Yesterday was an ouchie kind of day.

I, however, triumphed. I perservered, and made two bags. I don't know whether I should be naming them or what, but it seems like that's what people on Etsy and soforth do. I don't know if I can keep coming up with names for each individual product... We'll see.

This bag is called Plummy:

It was made from a women's petite blazer and some used crepe dress fabric. The tie is a men's DKNY silk that I found for a song. There are no inside pockets on this one, the crepe really wasn't holding them well. I managed to save the two outside pockets from the blazer and one of the breast pockets as well, and they are on the front, back, and side of the bag, respectively. I really like these colors, and the bag is the medium size of the pattern that I designed.

This next bag I call "Disco" because of the lovely 70's green and gold:

This was made out of a hideous pair of women's twill stretch pants in a size 4. I can't believe someone wore them! No, really. Wore them a great deal. I couldn't use the fabric around bum because it was so faded and worn threadbare! The lining is a lovely lime green linen, also from a women's blazer, and the handles are a men's polyester tie that my friend Amber found when we were thrifting. I loved that golden color and texture. The outside pocket is made from the inner lining to the green blazer. This bag is going to end up with a large snap closure on the inside, and two small hidden snaps to hold the flare shape if desired, that can also unsnap to accomodate more stuff!

And finally, Courtney finished my logo yesterday. I am amazed at how close it is to what I was thinking. She did a fantastic job:

So, Court came over today and she fixed it! We now have the logo as it SHOULD look! See?

Hell's Handbasket Logo

I love it! It's perfect, right down to the cross stitched outline of the skull and crossbones! Courtney rocks.

Okay, well I'm off to have some breakfast and maybe walk the Dexter dawg before I have to be at work today. I hope you all have a lovely day, peanuts!
